Her parents, unsure how she would study or find her way in the world, sent her to live with her aunt and uncle so she could go to school. She grew up answering the same doubting question — "how will she manage?" — and grew up proving the answer every single day. Inspired by her siblings to step out and learn, she found sport: badminton gold in college, Lawn Bowls gold at the nationals, and today, the powerlifting platform.

Tell us about your journey.

"I'm from Haryana, and my journey started very young. I was only five when I had my accident and lost both my legs. My parents were so worried — how would I study, how would I manage, what would my life look like? They sent me to live with my aunt and uncle so I could go to school. Growing up, I faced a lot. People at school would ask every kind of question — she's so small, how will she do it? Even at home, everyone wondered. But after I finished 12th grade, my brothers and sisters became my biggest inspiration. They pushed me to step outside, to learn, to see the world. The hardest part later was balancing college with sport — my family was always protective. But they never once told me I couldn't. The belief was inside me. I knew I could do it — how I did it was up to me."

Looking back, which achievements make you most proud?

"When I look back, I feel proud — I won gold in badminton in college, and gold in Lawn Bowls at the nationals. But the proudest moment is when I can hand a medal to ADP and to my coaches. My coaches have worked just as hard as I have. Without ADP, I might have been doing some ordinary job, or just sitting at home. They gave me a platform and pushed me forward, all the way toward the international level. I'm so thankful for that."

Tell us about your bond with Tuffy.

"There's something special about being emotionally attached to a dog. When we love them, they love us back twice as much. They don't want anything from us except love — that's all. An athlete's life is so busy, but making time to care for Tuffy, to play with her, to just be with her, brings real peace. She runs, she plays, she gets up to mischief. Those are the moments that matter. Tuffy makes me feel responsible, she loves without any selfishness, she's fearless, and she lives completely in the present. She keeps my mind happy — and she inspires me to keep going."

Is there a moment with dogs that has stayed with you?

"The moments that stay with me are the hardest ones. I'd see little stray puppies on the road — sheltering under a parked bike, or hurt because someone had been cruel to them. It affects me so deeply. I always wish I had the means to protect them, to shelter them, to do something for them. Seeing them happy brings me joy, but seeing them hurt breaks my heart. I truly believe animals should be treated with the same care, love and respect we expect for ourselves."
